The Basket Hitch

This video illustrates the main features of one of the basic hitches when using wire rope, synthetic, or chain slings which is the basket hitch. A basket hitch is where the sling runs under the load and typically the eyes of the sling connect to a common structure. If each of the sling legs are vertical within 5 degrees this is called a true vertical basket hitch. When the load is big enough and the legs are vertical the capacity of the sling is twice the capacity of the single leg.
